Teaching Style

My approach to yoga is not defined by a set sequence, special equipment, or a specific room temp (think Hot Yoga). Instead, I live, practice and teach based on 5 core principles.

Movement × Wisdom = Yoga

Yoga used to be the royal path towards enlightenment. Today, it's become known as the royal path towards a great butt. I place equal emphasis on both the movement and the wisdom of yoga because the magic of yoga happens where the two dimensions meet.

Every Body Is Unique

Humans are not just different on the outside, but also on the inside. That’s why the "one-size-fits-all" cues we still hear in studios around the world don't work. I'll teach you to embrace human uniqueness in your practice and in your teaching.

 But Every Thing Is One

Today science tells us what spiritual leaders have been saying for thousands of years: We're all one. Part of the same universal energy. And more connected than it seems. My goal is to help you experiencing the Oneness of all things through yoga (without any Dogma).

Walk The Middle Path

Humans are half material, half spirit. Half real, half illusion. We know and yet we wonder. Not to mention that we're constantly dealing with conflicts, tradeoffs and chaos. It seems like the good life is a delicate balance of many things. That's why my approach to yoga is all about walking the Middle Path.

Be Your Own Guru

I'm not here to only give you facts, figures and instructions. My mission is to empower you by cutting out the noise, teaching you principles and making all lessons practical and relevant for where you stand.

YOGA JOURNEY

YOGA JOURNEY

YOGA JOURNEY

The first time I tried yoga I absolutely hated it

I decided it wasn't for me.

But a few years later my mom got diagnosed with Stage IV cancer and asked me to join her for yoga classes at the hospital in Texas … and of course I went.

The yoga sessions in the clinic were calm, slow, super gentle. Nothing spectacular. But they worked like magic!

Not just for my mom who beat the cancer (she's still doing yoga on the daily). But also for me. I returned home feeling grounded, with a positive outlook on life and all I wanted was more yoga.

First, I stumbled into the Yin class of a friend of a friend. Soon, three weekly Yin sessions weren't enough anymore, and so I branched out and discovered stronger styles of yoga like Hatha and Vinyasa Flow.

Eventually, a friend told me I could do this thing called "yoga teacher training" if I wanted to do nothing but yoga for a whole month. I immediately sold half of my stuff and signed up for my first 200 hour YTT in India.

This was the beginning of a 10 year learning journey dedicated to studying, practicing and teaching yoga all day everyday.

From 12 Students to 1 Million Almost Overnight

I didn't plan on teaching yoga, and my teacher training did not prepare me for teaching yoga. But somehow I still ended up becoming a yoga teacher.

I started out teaching a few friends. Then I taught classes, part time at local studios. I had a small student base and everything was chill.

Then, one night after a sweaty Vinyasa class, a student whom I had never seen before asked if I would like to become the face of one of the largest online yoga platforms in the world - DoYouYoga.

My first program - the 30 Day Yoga Challenge - reached more than 1 Million students and led to more classes on DoYou and YouAligned (another yoga subscription platform).

Students began to reach out to me asking for retreats and even YTTs. At that point I quit my job as the head of the English department at a local high school and started to teach yoga full time.

Why I started Movement Wisdom Yoga

I'm forever grateful for all the education that I have received and the lessons I learned through trial and error.

But one thing is for sure:

I spent too much time, too much money and too much energy on my yoga education.

In order to learn what every solid yoga teacher should know I had to complete 8 YTTs, 23 specialty workshops, and read my way through hundreds of yoga books.

Plus, I embarrassed myself in front of my students a Gazillion times because 1000s of hours of formal education didn't include much teaching practice.

All in all, my yoga education cost me around $50,000 and took 10,000 hours.

And here is the bigger problem:

I know from conversations with 100s of fellow yoga teachers and YTT students that my own story is not the unfortunate exception. It's the sad truth for anyone who wants to really understand yoga and tap into all the incredible benefits it offers us. And it's especially true for those planning to become professional teachers.

It shouldn't be so difficult to get a complete yoga education. That's why I started Movement Wisdom.

My Invitation To You

I'm here to teach you all the important (and hard-to-come-by) insights that I have collected over time. You will learn in weeks what took me years to figure out. For a fraction of the price. And you'll get your courses delivered to your doorstep instead of having to take all your vacation days and fly around the world.

As sad as it is — I truly believe that 99% of yoga teachers aren't nearly as good as they could be. They could be life-changing teachers. But they are not.

This means that 99% of their students never get to experience the life-changing power of yoga.

No wonder then that more and more people see yoga as a only a workout — when in reality yoga is movement with meaning and philosophy in action.

I am convinced that yoga is the most powerful practice ever invented. I've made it my mission to keep the idea of yoga as a personal superpower alive. And I would love nothing more than for you to join me on this mission.

Let's redefine what it means to teach yoga together!
